Grayscale partially attributed the unexpected surge in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies to what it described as \u201cmore defensive positioning within crypto markets.\u201d In Grayscale\u2019s sector framework, these privacy tokens fall under the \u201cCurrencies\u201d subsector, which includes assets primarily used as mediums of exchange or stores of value rather than application platforms.<\/p>\n

While the Currencies subsector declined more than 15% during the quarter, it still significantly outperformed other segments, including financials, smart contract platforms, consumer and culture, and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
